Beginner Freediving Course - Sydney - Alexandria

Foundations of Freediving

In our Level 1 or Wave 1 course, you'll master the foundations of freediving, including equalisation, breath-holding, and relaxation techniques. You'll learn the physical and mental skills needed to begin your freediving journey and dive to depths of 12-20 meters on a single breath!

Our course takes place amidst the stunning backdrops of Sydney’s Northern Beaches and Eastern Suburbs. It's perfect for complete beginners and individuals with prior freediving, spearfishing, surfing, or diving experience who have yet to undergo formal freediving training.

Comprehensive Training

Whether you’re starting from scratch or seeking to refine your existing skills, our Level 1 course is the ideal platform to nurture your passion for the underwater world.

Course Outline

Day 1:

  • Knowledge development about equalisation, freediving, and safety.
  • Breathing and breath-hold techniques and relaxation.
  • Pool session to practice these techniques, introduce dynamic apnea (swimming distance underwater), and safety training for rescues.

Day 2:

  • Two open-water sessions:
    • Morning Session: Get comfortable with equalisation, free immersion, and depth diving techniques.
    • Afternoon Session: Integrate all learned skills in constant weight freediving to achieve greater depths. If you're on the Central Coast, join us on the boat to experience deep diving in a fantastic location.

Included Gear

The following gear is provided for free: mask, snorkel, freediving fins, weight belt, and weights. Wetsuits can be rented for a cleaning fee of $40.

Worldwide Recognition

All certifications from our courses are recognised worldwide. You can choose to complete either an SSI or Molchanovs Program.

Additional Benefits

This course includes a free Freediving Central training program, allowing you to continue training and progressing in your freediving journey.

Saturday 
We are aiming to start at 8.30 am at Pro Dive Alexandria.

At 12.30pm We will make our way over to UNSW University Aquatic Centre for our Pool session.

Sunday

We will meet at 8.00 am at Gordons Bay in the Eastern Suburbs and aim to be in the water at 8.30 am for our first open water session.

We usually finish up around 2.30 pm.

Requirements


Fitness to Dive

  • You must review Free Diving medical prior to the commencement of the course
  • If you have answered "yes" to any question on your dive medical form, you are required to provide us the following  form ticked "Approved – I find no conditions that I consider incompatible with recreational scuba diving or freediving" by a medical doctor (Download form)
  • This must be provided no less than 7 days before your course start date. 
  • The instructor always has the final say if a dive medical is required.
